In 2001, Phelps set the world record in the 200-meter butterfly. He was the youngest male swimmer in history to set a world swimming record. At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Phelps won his 22nd gold medal in the 200M individual medley, marking Phelps's 4th consecutive gold medal in the event as well as his 4th in the Games.
